Robin Dennis sat at a table at Dalton Green Saturday afternoon eating a barbecue pork sandwich and listening to The Casey Adams Band perform.
"This is very nice," she said. "It feels like we (community members) should be doing this for them, instead they are showing us appreciation."
Dennis is referring to the fourth annual Community Appreciation Day hosted by the Dalton/Marine Corps League/Cpl. Glenn Pair Detachment 1309.
Marine Cpl. Glenn Pair was a Vietnam veteran and founding member of the Marine Corps League Detachment 1309 of Dalton. He died in 2017.
Last year during the league's Community Day, the detachment was renamed in his memory.
On Saturday, attendees mingled while listening to live music, enjoying barbecue sandwiches and participating in raffles for prizes.
Whitfield County Commissioner Barry Robbins, who is also the detachment's commandant, thanked everyone for coming to the community day.
"This is the 10th anniversary of the Dalton/Marine Corps League/Cpl. Glenn Pair Detachment 1309, Dalton, Ga.," he said. "This day means a lot to us and we're happy to share it with you."
Judy Pair, widow of Glenn Pair, said she was happy with this year's turnout.
"It's so nice and we have a bigger crowd this year," she said. "We've increased activities and giveaways ...
