WEDNESDAY, June 14, 2017 (HealthDay News) -- When seasonal allergies[1] strike, what remedy is right for you? The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has some answers.
An allergy[2] is your body's reaction to a substance it considers an invader. The body reacts to that invader by releasing chemicals called histamines, which cause the sneezing[3], wheezing[4] and itchy[5], watery eyes[6] that make life miserable, the FDA explains.
Antihistamines[7] are available in many forms, including tablets and liquids. Many oral antihistamines are available over-the-counter (OTC) and some are available by prescription and in generic form, according to the FDA.
