Dalton State College is proving to be more than just a basketball school.

While Dalton State’s men’s team was able to secure the Southern States Athletic Conference regular season title last month and a berth in next week’s National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics Division I tournament, the Roadrunners’ entire athletic program has performed well throughout the 2014-15 school year.

As a result, Dalton State is leading the SSAC Commissioner’s Cup all-sports standings after the conclusion of the winter sports season, according to a release from the conference.

“To be where we are in just our first year is a testament to our coaches and athletes,” Dalton State athletic director Derek Waugh said. “... Everyone in the community can be proud of what they have been able to accomplish.”

The SSAC Commissioner’s Cup is awarded based on the cumulative performance of each member school in the league’s 15 sports for men and women. This year the conference will recognize a winner in men’s sports and women’s sports, as well as an all-sports winner. Dalton State currently leads in all three areas.
