Drivers in Whitfield and Murray counties should keep an eye out for several Georgia Department of Transportation projects that will soon be underway.

GDOT has awarded an $878,084 contract to LU Inc. of Carrollton to replace the guardrail at 90 locations on I-75, beginning at mile marker 324 in Whitfield County and extending to mile marker 354 in Catoosa County. That work is expected to be completed in May 2017, according to Mohamed Arafa, GDOT communications officer.

In Murray County, eight locations are getting sign and pavement marking upgrades: the Piney Hill Road CSX railroad crossing, the Jackson Lake Road crossing, the Old CCC Camp Road crossing, the Pat Loughridge Road crossing, the Summerour Church Road crossing, the Brushtown Road crossing, the Ga. Highway 2 crossing and the Giles Street crossing.

Thats part of a $197,496 contract awarded to Protection Services of Conyers for sign and pavement marking upgrades in four counties, also including Bartow, Cobb and Gordon. That work is projected to be completed by June 2017.

Finally, GDOT has placed the bridge on U.S. 41/Ga. Highway 3 over Little Swamp Creek south of the South Dalton Bypass in Whitfield County out for bids for replacement. ...
