Dalton’s Christmas parade is Thursday, but it isn’t too late to sign up to take part.“We’ve decided to extend the deadline until right until the time of the parade,” said Haynes Townsend, president of the Dalton Noon Lion’s Club, which sponsors the parade.“If you want to get in the parade, just show up, and we’ll take care of the parade.”The parade starts at 6 p.m., but participants start lining up at 4 p.m. at the intersection of Thornton Avenue and Waugh Street and extending west on Waugh towards Dalton High School. The cost is $40 for the first vehicle, trailer or float and $5 for each extra and $60 for an unlimited number of vehicles.Townsend said the Lion’s Club has invited local World War II veterans to serve as joint grand marshals of the parade and several will be on hand.“They’ll be riding in the antique cars at the front of the parade,” Townsend said.Money raised from the parade funds Lion’s charities.“Locally, we buy eyeglasses and hearing aids for folks who can’t afford them. Also, locally we do eye surgeries for people through our Lighthouse Foundation in Atlanta. We’ve done a lot of eye surgeries over the years,” Townsend said.
