DALTON FIRE DEPARTMENT UNIT HONORED FOR LIFESAVING RESCUE

Dalton Fire Department Chief Todd Pangle awarded unit citations to a group of firefighters who were involved in rescuing a man from flood waters at Mill Creek on June 1. The firefighters were honored at Tuesday's Dalton Public Safety Commission meeting.

The firefighters were dispatched in the early morning hours on June 1 to a report of a man in the water in Mill Creek near Glenwood Avenue. When firefighters arrived they could hear a man calling for help but could not see him due to darkness and weather conditions. After locating the man in the water clinging to a tree branch, fire companies began a coordinated rescue effort including clearing a path to the victim through the brush, a water entry to rescue the patient and also setting up a secondary rescue team downstream as a safety. The man was rescued and transported to Hamilton Medical Center for evaluation and treatment.

Receiving unit citations for the rescue were battalion chief Brandon Bray, Lt.
