Chattanooga Symphony & Opera will bring magic, tragedy, and local music with a touch of the Force in the coming season. The companys wide-ranging 2018-2019 season features music from the Harry Potter franchise, Star Wars, the opera Carmen, and more. It will be the combined companys 86th season.
The new season kicks off on Sept. 28,with a performance of Astor Piazollas orchestral tangos in The Four Seasons of Buenos Aires. Some of the classic works featured in other concerts include Beethovens Symphonies No. 4 & No. 6, Brahms Symphony No. 1, Mozarts Mass in C minor, Mendelssohns Symphony No. 3, Shostakovichs Symphony No. 10, Stravinskys Firebird suite, and Tchaikovskys Symphony No. 4.
A featured new work on the schedule is Chattanooga native George S. Clintons the Rose of Sonora, a concerto written for CSO Concertmaster Holly Mulcahy to premier. Clinton, a prolific composer and songwriter, has written music for such diverse outlets as the Austin Powers film franchise, Michael Jackson albums, and the upcoming movie Zombies. CSO will also premiere four additional new works commissioned as part of its Chattanooga Fanfare Project. The featured composers for this concert are Douglas Hedwig, Roland Carter, Jonathan McNair, and Tim Hinck.
