As we celebrate the 45th anniversary of Earth Day today I am reminded of all the great accomplishments made in the area of environmental stewardship over the years. Yet, as I learn more about ongoing water conservation challenges and other issues I am reminded that saving the planet requires individuals to make lifestyle changes that take the environment into consideration year round.
This Earth Day I encourage you to reflect on how dependent we are on all the resources we use from the Earth. Managing how we use those resources in our everyday life is key to continued environmental success.
You’ve probably heard of the 3 R’s (reduce, reuse and recycle), which are a guide to help us manage our waste.
Reduce means using less so we have less to throw away. This includes purchasing only the food you need and intend to use to reduce the amount of leftovers.
Reuse refers to using things again before throwing them away. A plastic water bottle, for example, could be filled with water again.
