An alleyway in the 700 block of Cherry Street will be transformed into a pop-up parklet Fridays in May.

River City Co. recently announced Picnic in the Passageways at the Garden Grass Inversion[1] alleyway, which will be converted into an animated park from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. May 5, 12, 19 and 26.

Admission is free, and a different food truck, live music performer and demonstration will be featured each week. In addition, visitors can enjoy "bistro seating" and fresh greenery at the space.

The idea is to build momentum on Cherry Street, provide opportunities for neighbors to connect and create a sense of place, officials said.

A full schedule of events is below. More information is expected in April.

Garden Grass Inversion is "the suspension of locally sourced bamboo from high-tension cables spanning the alley," according to its designers.

The alleyway is part of Passageways, a design program from AIA Tennessee and River City Co. Four architectural firms were chosen from 80 professional and community designs.

The program is made possible by Fidelity Trust Co., PV Design ...
