A group of more than 85 Hamilton Health Care System associates lost more than 2,000 pounds as part of a wellness initiative.

The associates, recognized at an organization event, each lost at least 10 pounds through the "A Healthy Lifestyle" program. Some of them even quit smoking through the program.

Hamilton started the "A Healthy Lifestyle" wellness program for employees a little more than a year ago. In the first year, the program had a 98.5 percent participation rate.

In the first six months of the program, Lacey Barrett, pharmacy technician, lost 22 pounds.

"I turned the big '30' this year and was depressed about my age, weight and overall health," said Barrett. "I have a hectic schedule and felt like I had no time for being healthy, but where there's a will, there's a way."

Barrett is a mother of two children. She works full time for Hamilton Medical Center (HMC) and takes full-time online courses with Dalton State College. She also plays the piano for a local assisted living facility for an hour every other Sunday.
