WINTER WEATHER AFFECTS AREA SPORTS SCHEDULE

The winter weather forecasted to hit the area today and Saturday has caused havoc on the area sports schedule.

Three sets of games originally scheduled for tonight -- River Ridge at Dalton, Pickens at Southeast Whitfield and Northwest Whitfield at Gilmer -- were played Thursday. Three other sets of games remaining on the schedule were postponed. Murray County's scheduled games at Coahulla Creek have been moved to Saturday, Jan. 28, with JV games starting at noon and the varsity games starting at 3 p.m. Make-up dates for Ringgold at North Murray and North Cobb Christian at Christian Heritage were not available by The Daily Citizen's deadline.

Decisions on a pair of games scheduled for Saturday, Southeast Whitfield at Murray County and North Murray at Dade County, are expected to be made early today.

The Area 3-3A and 6-6A wrestling dual tournament scheduled for this weekend at Calhoun and Sprayberry high schools respectively have been moved to Monday. No decision had been made on the Area 6-4A dual tournament scheduled for Saturday at Heritage by The Daily Citizen's deadline.

The National Weather Service is calling for up to 2 inches of snow today and into Saturday along with freezing temperatures.
