SEED COMPANY PUTS HUNGER RELIEF AT THE FOREFRONT

Surrounded by rows of green crops at the Cul2vatefarm, Joey Lankford and David Mauro bonded over their shared mission to feed the hungry.

Mauro’s organization The Mauro Seed Co. donates seeds to Lankford’s nonprofit Cul2vate, which gives 50 percent of the food it grows to hunger relief initiatives while providing employment and life skills training to its farmers.

The partnership comes to full fruition at the farm, tucked in a valley at the Ellington Agricultural Center, where workers stacked boxes of vegetables into a truck on a Wednesday in November before bringing the produce to the Nashville Food Project to alleviate hunger in the community.

For Mauro, working with Cul2vate and other similar organizations around the world allows him to give back in a meaningful way.
