Food, fun and of course fireworks.

The Fourth of July is approaching on Monday, and there are plenty of area activities the whole family can enjoy over the holiday weekend.

The Dalton Parks and Recreation Department is gearing up for its annual celebration Monday at Heritage Point Park at 1275 Cross Plains Trail.

Its going to be huge, said Stephanie Dean, a marketing specialist with the department.

Dean said all activities are free and the event is the biggest celebration in the area, which attracts people from all over to celebrate. Before the big fireworks show at 9:30 p.m., activities start at 2 p.m. with a disc golf tournament and registration for the Little Miss Rec Pageant and the eating contests.

The corn hole competition is at Heritage Park East at 4 p.m. with the Little Miss Rec event following at 5.

This years event includes Bubble Ball Soccer, a sport thats played inside a plastic inflatable covering the players upper body and head. Members of Dalton Police and Dalton Fire departments compete against each other. The winner then competes against employees from the recreation department. The game starts at 5:30 p.m. and the public is also invited to watch.
