AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) -- What's your excuse? A local man just ran in the Boston Marathon. He's 70-years-old and has prostate cancer. On top of that, back problems kept him from running for more than 25 years. This is a man who should be an inspiration to us all.
Jim Fields has crossed the finish line in 20 marathons. The most recent is the Boston Marathon at the age of 70.
I was hoping to do it without walking, which I did," said Fields.
Its a miracle in itself but his path has not been easy. He didn't run for 29 years after a back injury.
"I'm surprised a bit that I've been able to, I never thought I'd run again," said Fields.
Less than a year ago, Jim started running again. In September, he qualified for the Boston Marathon but shortly after, he hit another obstacle. He was diagnosed with prostate cancer.
"On February the 4, I had my prostate removed and that was 10 weeks before the day of the Boston Marathon and my surgeon said Jim you won't be doing any marathons soon," said Fields.
