VETERANS, SERVICE MEMBERS GET HELP WITH LAWN CARE

Many of us spend a great deal of time and money keeping our lawns immaculate.But deployed military members or wounded veterans may not have the ability to work in their yards.That’s why landscaping professionals from across the country have volunteered to provide their time and services to help these men and women keep their yards in shape.“They have sacrificed a lot for us, and I thought it was important to do something to give back,” said Drew Callaway, co-owner of Dixon Landscaping in Chatsworth, a division of Dixon Excavating. “There’s no way I can ever give back 100 percent, but I thought this was a way I could show my appreciation.”Callaway is taking part in Project Evergreen’s Greencare for Troops program. Project Evergreen is a national nonprofit group that promotes greenspace.“A number of our board members own and operate lawn care and landscaping businesses,” said Cindy Code, executive director of Project Evergreen. “And they thought that one way to give back to our military service members was to provide free landscaping services for deployed military members.”Code said that when service members are deployed that often leaves the spouse alone to handle all aspects of maintaining the home and family.
